The Wedding

Finally, finally, we are getting married. Thank you for your patience. We don't like to rush into things.

We're excited as cartoon chipmunks about the wedding knees-up at the Canal Museum on July 30th and are dead pleased that you can celebrate with us. It's going to be smashing!

Even though we've bombarded you with information in the invitation already, we thought it would be useful to set up this blog so that you can easily find information about the wedding day, hotels, transport and any other bits and pieces you might need to know. Dead futuristic.

The most important thing for us is that we can eat, drink and be merry with you on the wedding day itself and it means a lot to have so many family and friends who are making the effort to share the day with us. If you feel that your presence at the wedding is not gift enough, we would be extremely grateful if you were able to make a contribution to our honeymoon - a road trip down the west coast of America.

Below, we've put together a list of all-American fun things we'd like to do, see and stuff into our faces. You can either contribute to one thing, or to a range of things if you really want to spoil us. If you'd like to contribute, you can either click on the 'donate' button next to the description of a particular item and follow the link (we'll send a 'thank you' email to let you know we've received your gift safely) or if you prefer we'd be equally made up if you sent us a cheque or pinned bank notes to Sam's dress on the wedding day.

Thank you and we'll see you on the day!

Love from Sam and Hel xxx

The Wedding Day

Here is some useful information about the wedding day arrangements, accommodation and transport.

The Ceremony

The ceremony takes place at Hackney Town Hall at 3pm.

For directions and transport links please click here.

The Reception and Evening Do

An old Routemaster bus will take guests to the champagne reception and wedding breakfast at the London Canal museum.

The evening do will start from 8pm.

For a map and transport links for the London Canal Museum please click here.

Seattle and Portland

The starting point. A damp, rain-swept city on the north-west coast. Like starting your honeymoon in Carlisle. But this is the north-west coast of America, and Seattle and Portland are apparently both relaxed, friendly cities famous for their coffee, beer and sense of fun. Just like Carlisle. Here are some of the ways we'd like to kick off the trip...

Five Nights at the Ace Hotel Seattle and Portland

A proper swanky hotel for our first few nights so we can swan about looking all cool and totally hip.

Please contribute £30 per night, or whatever you fancy.

The Kennedy School

An old school that has been converted into a fancy hotel. A busman's holiday maybe but there is a cinema in the old gym and a bar and pool room in the headmaster's office.

Please contribute £40 per night, or whatever you fancy.

Seattle Woodland Park Zoo

Apparently one of the best zoos in America. The animals are not in cages but in 'ecosystem zones' where different species share the same environment. Which means we should definitely see a monkey fighting a hippo.

Please contribute £15 for entry, or whatever you fancy.

Cycling in Portland's Forest Park

Forest Park has over 70 miles of trails just outside of Portland. A pleasant way to spend a day.

Please contribute £20 for bike hire, or whatever you fancy.

Sandwiches at Salumi in Seattle

Cured Meat? Yes! Cheese? Oh yes! Pickles? Please. Never. Stop.

Please contribute £5 for a fancy sandwich, or whatever you fancy.

Beer, Hotdogs and Pinball at Shorty's in Seattle

Chilli Dogs followed by a few rounds on 'Indiana Jones - The Pinball Adventure'!

Please contribute £10 to our pinball wizardry, or whatever you fancy.

Pizza and a Movie at The Bagdad Theatre

Pizza, real ale and a film. This is how all cinemas should be.

Please contribute £10 for a pizza and a film, or whatever you fancy.

Georgetown Bar Crawl

A post-industrial pub crawl in one of Seattle's strangest neighbourhoods.

Please contribute £10 for a round or two, or whatever you fancy.

Redwood and Yosemite National Parks

For a week and a half we'll snake down the rocky Californian coast, through Redwood National Park, under the shade of some of the oldest and tallest trees in the world, searching for Bigfoot and stopping off to camp and gawp. Then we'll head inland to Yosemite National Park for a few days of mountain climbing, bear dodging and more camping and gawping.

Road Trip

We'll need some wheels to rattle down Highway 101.

Please contribute £20 per day for car hire, or whatever you fancy.

Curly Redwood Lodge

This motel is entirely constructed from one redwood tree.  Which is nice.

Please contribute £40 per night, or whatever you fancy.

Camping beneath the Redwoods

Sleeping at the foot of these monster trees with only canvas to keep Bigfoot out.

Please contribute £20 per night for tent hire and camping fees, or whatever you fancy.

Drive-Thru Tree

That's right! A tree, a massive, massive tree, that you can drive through with a car full of tiny, tiny humans.

Please contribute £10 for this once in a lifetime experience, or whatever you fancy.

Confusion Hill

Kitsch roadside Americana. The largest freestanding chainsaw carved redwood totem sculpture of a bear in the world. And a Gravity House where you try to keep your balance whilst leaning at a forty degree angle. And a railway through the trees. Real old timey entertainment.

Please contribute £10 to this freakery, or whatever you fancy.

Trees of Mystery

One of the world's tallest trees carved into the world's largest lumberjack and bull. Plus a spooky sculpture trail and a cable car ride through the treetops. Who needs Disneyland?

Please contribute £10 for entry, or whatever you fancy.

Yosemite Park Entry

Holy Moly! Here come Yosemite Sam and Yosemite Helena!

Please contribute £20 for park entry, or whatever you fancy.

Three Nights at Camp Curry

Luxury, comfortable, heated (but unfortunately not completely bear-proof) tents in Yosemite Valley.

Please contribute £30 per night, or whatever you fancy.

Yosemite Bike Hire

Cycling? In Yosemite? Don't worry - we are incredibly fit.

Please contribute £20 per day for bike hire, or whatever you fancy.

A Picnic by Yosemite Falls

After hiking up to the falls we'll need a bulging pickernic basket for refuelling in preparation for fighting off all the bears in the evening.

Please contribute £10 for a picnic, or whatever you fancy.

San Francisco

We'll end our West Coast trip in the foggy city of San Francisco. Some of our favourite films are set in San Francisco - 'Vertigo', 'Bullitt', ... and ... 'The Rock' ... and... erm... 'Mrs. Doubtfire'. So, if you want us to cross-dress in order to break our estranged children out of Alcatraz then give us the gift of San Francisco. Here are some of the things we'd really like to do...

Four nights at USA Hostel - San Francisco

Apparently the breakfasts are cracking - pancakes a-go-go!

Please contribute £40 per night, or whatever you fancy.

Trip to Alcatraz

Following in the illustrious footsteps of Al Capone, Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage.  Fact of the day: 'Alcatraz' is the Spanish word for 'Pelican'.

Please contribute £20, or whatever you fancy.

An amble around Golden Gate Park

The biggest urban park in the USA and home to the Conservatory of Flowers, a Japanese Tea Garden and the California Academy of Sciences.

Please contribute £10, or whatever you fancy.

Cycling across Golden Gate Bridge

We will cycle across the foggy bay. Then drink some beer.

Please contribute £30 for a day's bike hire, or whatever you fancy.

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Chin stroking and sage nodding for an afternoon.

Please contribute £20 for our entry, or whatever you fancy.
